What does the program include?

Spanish course for educators

Spanish Language and Culture Course:

  • Duration: 25 classroom hours- 5 hours each day from Monday to Friday.
  • Materials: Includes folder with materials about the academy and city, student ID, placement test (if student has previous Spanish experience, but no previous experience required), materials for class (textbook) and accredited aptitude diploma.
  • Lodging: 8 days of lodging with a Spanish family, private single room, three home cooked meals each day, and laundry included.
  • Airfare not included, but representatives can help participants arrange airfare, travel insurance, etc.).
  • Course: Following the Framework of Common European Reference, the class will explore content focusing mainly on Level A1. (Academy also offers other more advanced summer courses for teachers with Spanish language experience). The course objectives include that students will be able to communicate at a basic level, using past, present and simple future tenses (voy a + infinitive) and will be introduced to approximately 1,000 introductory level words.

Participants will be able to tell basic information about themselves and others (pertinent to communication with Spanish-speaking students and their families).

Also, participants will learn and practice communicating in a series of practical situations.

Included Organized Cultural Afternoon Activities:

  • Guided tours of monuments and art of Salamanca: cathedrals, historical University buildings, Casa de Conchas, Palace of Monterrey, St. Steven’s Church and Plaza Mayor (town square).
  • Visit to Fine Arts Museum of Salamanca.
  • Afternoon of tapas (Traditional Spanish appetizers).
  • Flamenco Dance Class.
  • Farewell Party at School.
